SUMMARY:AI-Powered Safety: Turning Standards into Action with ASSP Safety Trekr AI™
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence is changing how professionals access information\, solve problems\, and make decisions. But in occupational safety and health\, where the quality of information can directly affect worker protection\, an important question remains: How can we leverage AI to work more effectively without compromising the reliability of our technical guidance?\n\nThe American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) is helping answer that question through Safety Trekr AI™\, an AI-powered research tool designed to connect safety professionals with trusted technical knowledge\, including ANSI/ASSP consensus standards and the Safety Professionals Handbook.\n\nJoin the ASSP Three Rivers Chapter for an engaging technical session featuring Rick Blanchette and Lauren Bauerschmidt\, CSP\, from ASSP's Standards and Technical Publications team\, as we explore how AI is transforming the way safety professionals access and apply technical knowledge.\n\nThis session will introduce Safety Trekr AI\, explore its practical applications\, and highlight how safety professionals can use AI-assisted research to navigate complex standards\, develop safety resources\, and strengthen workplace risk management.\n\nParticipants will explore how AI-powered tools can support activities such as identifying relevant technical guidance\, preparing safety checklists\, developing training materials\, and translating technical knowledge into actionable workplace practices.\n\nThe discussion will also emphasize the importance of professional judgment\, source verification\, and responsible AI use when incorporating emerging technologies into safety management processes.\n\nWhether you are an experienced EHS leader\, safety practitioner\, consultant\, or student\, this session will provide valuable insights into the intersection of artificial intelligence\, consensus standards\, and the future of safety practice.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nObjectives:\n\n Describe the capabilities of ASSP Safety Trekr AI and explain how AI-powered research tools can support occupational safety and health professionals.\n Identify opportunities to use AI-assisted research to access ANSI/ASSP consensus standards\, technical publications\, and established safety practices.\n Apply AI-supported approaches to common safety activities\, including developing checklists\, preparing training materials\, and researching workplace hazards and controls.\n Evaluate the reliability and limitations of AI-generated safety information\, including the importance of source verification and professional judgment.\n Analyze opportunities to integrate AI-powered knowledge tools into existing safety management processes to improve efficiency\, risk assessment\, and preventive decision-making.\n\nPresenters:\nLauren Bauerschmidt\, CSP\n\nSenior Manager\, Standards and Technical Publications\nAmerican Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP)\n\nLauren Bauerschmidt is a Certified Safety Professional and serves as Senior Manager of Standards and Technical Publications at the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).\n\nIn her role\, Lauren coordinates ANSI/ASSP standards committees responsible for advancing nationally recognized guidance in occupational safety and health\, including standards related to risk management\, fall protection\, safety performance metrics\, and walking-working surfaces.\n\nHer professional background includes ergonomics\, workplace safety\, and engineering\, with experience improving work processes and reducing physical stressors in manufacturing and office environments.\n\nLauren holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan\, with graduate specialization in ergonomics and safety. She also contributes to the professional development of future safety practitioners through guest lectures on the practical application of consensus standards.\n\n&nbsp\;\nRick Blanchette\nManager\, Standards and Technical Publications\nAmerican Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP)\n\nRick Blanchette is Manager of Standards and Technical Publications at ASSP\, bringing extensive experience in technical publishing\, project management\, and the development of professional resources.\n\nHis work focuses on connecting industry expertise with practical tools that help safety professionals apply technical knowledge more effectively. Rick has experience managing publications from concept through completion\, collaborating with technical experts and stakeholders\, and helping align professional resources with evolving industry needs.\n\nHe has also supported initiatives that promote collaboration between standards development and workplace implementation\, including ASSP's Standards-Based User Groups\, which bring practitioners and subject matter experts together to address challenges such as artificial intelligence in safety\, fall protection\, and hazardous energy control.\n\nRick holds the Associate Standards Professional (SES-ASP) certification from the Society for Standardization Professionals.\n\n&nbsp\;\nAgenda:\n11:30 am Lunch &amp\; Networking\n\n11:55 am Chapter Announcements &amp\; Introductions\n\n~Noon to ~1:00 pm Presentation\nMeeting Sponsor:\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nNot a current member apply here and select Three Rivers as your primary chapter\, see you soon!\nWalk-Ins Welcome!
