TOPIC:  Building and Managing a Comprehensive Fall Protection Program

Managing a fall protection program in the workplace can be a fairly complicated and time consuming endeavor. The presentation involves a multi-module program that will assist companies in the development and implementation of a comprehensive fall protection program. This program will address many of the key elements that need to be evaluated; which include, task specific fall identification, fall equipment considerations & limitations, fall clearance evaluation, adequate rescue plans, companywide training and finally enforcement. Additionally, many contractors are now adopting six foot fall protection policies; however, these policies are frequently not managed effectively. Consequently, the equipment utilized, coupled with the available fall clearance does not arrest an employee’s fall prior to contact with lower landing levels. As a result many workers are at risk for serious injuries or worse. This training will instruct contractors on the fundamentals that must be evaluated when working within six foot fall requirements.

  • Fall protection – contingent upon where and/or when we are working.
  • Exposures – ladders, lifts, perimeter, same level – slip, trip and falls
  • What type of fall protection to use and when
  • What type of controls
  • Consider what types of contractors
  • Equipment

The Workshop will address the three recognized Fall Protection Methods: Guard Rails, Nets, and the Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) to include: Anchorage, Connectors, Body Harness, Lanyard, Deceleration Device, Fall Arrest, Free Fall Distance, Deceleration Device, and Orthostatic Intolerance.
