Why Work Safe “The Cost of Safety”

This presentation provides an obscure look into what the real cost of not working safely really is.  You will be provided a look a how not working safe can affect a company’s bottom line and how the act of working safe can actually increase quality and productivity.  Personal Protective Equipment is not enough to keep workers safe, attitude, morale, and understanding must be incorporated.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define who is responsible for working safe
  • Explain the collocation between Safety and Quality
  • Explain the cost associated with not working safe
  • Develop strategies for working safe that do not compromise quality or production

Presenter:

Eric Hedman, With 25 years in the fire service, working as a volunteer, part-time, and full-time firefighter, Eric Hedman knew his career of protecting people would not be over after he retired. Sending the last 10 years of his fire career as a Training Officer, Eric began educating himself in occupational safety. After retiring Eric would work in various safety positions with various companies including the Chicago Transit Authority and the Asplundh Tree Experts. In 2019 Eric would go back to his roots in municipal work and except a position with the City of Naperville where he currently works as the city’s Safety Training Specialist.
