Despite overall injury rates declining, serious injuries and fatalities (SIFs) continue to occur each year—often with life-altering consequences. Traditional safety metrics alone are not enough to prevent these incidents. This session explores a focused, risk-based approach to SIF prevention and offers practical strategies to better protect workers in construction and industrial environments.
Objectives:
- Define Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIFs) and distinguish them from other workplace incidents.
- Understand the common precursors and high-energy hazards that contribute to SIF events.
- Identify proactive methods to integrate SIF prevention into safety management systems.
- Explore real-world lessons learned and actionable steps to drive SIF prevention in the workplace.
