11:30 am - 1:00 pm
This presentation will provide an overview of Argonne National Laboratory’s Heat Stress Program, with a focus on the integration of physiological monitoring. Participants will learn how Argonne applies federal requirements, including 10 CFR 851, and uses real-time monitoring of core body temperature, heart rate, and exertion levels to guide safe work practices. Practical examples will be shared to highlight how data-driven monitoring supports worker safety, improves program effectiveness, and enhances compliance with occupational health standards.
Objectives:
- Interpret applicable standards and regulations (ACGIH, 10 CFR 851, proposed OSHA standard).
- Differentiate methods for evaluating heat stress risk, including WBGT and physiological monitoring.
- Apply engineering, administrative, and PPE controls to reduce worker exposure.
- Evaluate Argonne’s practical approach to implementing a comprehensive Heat Stress Program.
Presenter:
Isabella Anderson is an Industrial Hygiene Generalist at Argonne National Laboratory, where she leads the Heat Stress Program. She is currently pursuing her graduate degree and was recognized as a 2024 National Safety Council Rising Star of Safety. At Argonne, Isabella collaborates with operations personnel and construction management teams to ensure compliance with 10 CFR 851 requirements.
